Lament

Lament is a prayer that acknowledges that our world is broken, but God is still sovereign over it all. In a lament Service, one may choose to use Scripture, especially Psalms of Lament, as well as songs, prayers, and liturgical readings that cry out to God. Lament is often offered in the interrogative mood.
Structure
The structures for lament can be drawn from the many lament passages in Scripture. Using that format, one will likely include the following in
-
Invitation: The people of God are invited to encounter the Trinity by both word and symbol.
-
Scripture: Psalm of lament or liturgical reading
-
Silence
-
Prayer: Prayers of intercession
-
Singing: Songs of lament
-
Scripture: Psalm of assurance or liturgical reading (optional)
-
Sending: Send the people of God out with benediction.
