Daily Prayer

The center of a prayer service is an honest and rich re-presentation of the world before God in communal prayer. We understand “prayer” in this context quite broadly, incorporating words, gestures, silence, music, art, etc. The proclamation of Scripture and other liturgical pieces fuel and shape that prayer. Prayer services can be utilized for a variety of purposes: thanksgiving, lament, or petition. Prayers may be spoken corporately or individually as well as being mixed with silence or songs. Prayer services can also use prompting images, questions, or concerns.

Structure

Prayer service structures are as varied as our prayers. Specific types of prayer service structures may be found under the Lament, Taizé, and Big Sing pages, but all of them will include at least:

  • Invitation: The people of God are invited to encounter the Trinity by both word and symbol.

  • Proclamation: The assigned scriptural text provides the themes, characters, language, structure, or mood for our corporate intercession.

  • Prayer: Corporately or individually, audibly or silently, sorrowfully or joyfully

  • Sending: Send the people of God out with benediction.
